Ten Hot Home Business Ideas ( Google affiliate )

If you have some spare time, why not start a home based business and earn some cool cash? With the increased cost of living, food and fuel prices skyrocketing, I am sure you could do with some extra money on the side.

Here's a few hot home business ideas to get you going:

1. Mail Order Business

A mail order business is still by far the easiest to start up and operate from home. Find a good product, run test adverts in relevant publications and assess how well it does. Then concentrate on the publications that offer you good returns. In mail order, payment is received first from the customer and then the order is dispatched by post to the customer. In this way you don't need excessive amounts of money or risk to outlay on stock.

2. Internet Business

There are countless of businesses you can operate on the web. These range from e-commerce sites where you offer a product or service to niche content sites and blogs where you can make money from Adsense or by selling ad space to other sites. Partaking in an affiliate program and promoting a great product is also recommended.

3. Paper Recycling

If you have a van or a vehicle with a trailer and some spare space at home, then you could collect old paper and cardboard and sell them to recycling plants in your area. There is a lot of hard work involved but if you have the time and are prepared to give it your best, then this opportunity could be quite profitable for you.

4. Publish A Small Community Newspaper

If you have a flair for writing, then you should consider publishing a small community newspaper. You will distribute the newspapers for free in your area. You will make money by accepting paid ads into your newspaper from businesses in that specific area.

5. Garage Sale Organizer

You can help people get rid of their junk by providing a garage sale service for them. You will take charge of setting up, promoting and organizing the sale for a commission of the total items sold.

6. Writing How To Reports

If you are skilful in a certain niche, you can put your knowledge down on paper and market them to interested customers. The public have an insatiable appetite for How To Reports in almost any topic. You can market these reports on the internet or through conventional mail order techniques.

7. Telephone Answering Service

If you are home bound continuously, then this opportunity might be just right for you. Many small businesses are merely one man operations, for example a plumber or electrician. It is impossible for them to handle telephone calls and perform their trade at the same time. You could set up a telephone answering service from your home for these type of customers. You can perform these functions for a couple of businesses at the same time.

8. Secretarial Service

You can take the telephone answering service one step further and provide a full blown secretarial service for these small businesses. You could answer phones, type letters, perform filing, computer work, etc.

9. Party Plan

If you're the sociable kind, have lots of friends and contacts, then you could start a party plan business from home. You will choose a product or a range of products to promote and invite people over for a "tea party". You will then demonstrate your wares and convince people to buy from you.

10. Medical Billing

If you have a computer with the right kind of medical billing software, you can provide a billing service to the various doctors in your area.

Where's The Money? Adsense vs. Affiliate Programs

The main question I get from my clients when coaching them on building content sites is wether they should use Adsense or affiliate programs. It's a great question, and one that I haven't seen addressed often. Hopefully this information will help you in making your decision.

My rule of thumb is always go where the money is, but in making the decision to use Adsense or affiliate programs, there are a few things you should look at. Let's take a look at those things right now, so you know exactly what you should be putting on your site. Google Adsense or affiliate programs.

First, it will depend on your niche. If there is an affiliate program for your niche that converts well and pays well, then you should take the affiliate program route. I'm sure you would rather make dollars than you would cents, so using an affiliate program in this situation would be your best bet. However, if there isn't an affiliate program, using a pay-per-click service such as Google Adsense will at least allow you to earn a little money from your content site.

This leads to another question though. How do you tell if the affiliate program you are looking at is a good one or not?

The answer to that question will take some research, but will be well worth your time. The first thing to do is to contact the site owner or affiliate manager and ask what the average conversion rate is for the affiliate program. You could also ask if they have any affiliates that would be willing to email you their experiences with the product. Once you have the answer to that question, visit a few affiliate marketing forums and ask if anyone has promoted the program before or if they have any experience with the owner or affiliate manager of the site. Usually if it's a bad program, many people will tell you about it.

Now, if you don't find any affiliate programs for your niche, then I would use Google Adsense or any of the other programs like it. Always check though to make sure you can't make more money from something else. You don't want to be making pennies on a site you could be making dollars from. Most of the time Google Adsense just pays pennies per click. So if you got 100 clicks on your Adsense ad, and made say $5, but you got 100 clicks on an affiliate link and made $50, wouldn't it make more send to use the affiliate link on your site?

Using this as a guide will help you, but you still must test and track what works best for your site. You could put Adsense ads on your site for a few weeks, and then replace them with affiliate links for a few weeks. See what does better, and use the one that makes you more money. Just remember to keep testing and tracking!

7 Adsense Affiliate Tips: Avoid These Mistakes

People are bragging about how much money they are making from the Google AdSense affiliate program... But, you've been at it for awhile and you still haven't seen a big commission check in the mail yet...

With these seven AdSense affiliate tips, you can increase your AdSense income... Up until now, no one has ever pointed out what may be preventing you from reaching your earnings objectives. Could it be that you've been given the wrong information?

We'll look at seven mistakes that AdSense publishers make and how they should be handled. And don't worry; the suggestions for improvement are within the AdSense terms of service so you won't get banned from using them. After you are done reading about these mistakes, you should be able to identify if you need to make the necessary changes to your site.

So then, here are the seven mistakes AdSense affiliates make and tips to correct them...

(1) Creating Sites for the Purpose of Showing AdSense Ads

M.F.A. or "Made for AdSense," is the other term which people use to describe a site which was built for the purpose of earning AdSense affiliate commissions. The primary purpose wasn't to serve the people of a niche market online. No. The site was created for the owner to make easy money from people who click ads because there is nothing else of value on that site. No content, no real products being sold...

Tip #1: If you have a thin affiliate site, then start thinking about the market you are targeting and fatten it with information most helpful to them.

(2) Placing Ads on Blinds Spots

When the web was young, the 468 x 60 pixel banner ads where on almost every site...usually at the top before the real content below. They were effective back then, but Internet surfers have become so used to them being ads, that now a days they ignore anything in that location. So, placing AdSense ads in this region doesn't get as many click thrus.

Tip #2: The best places to place your ads would be within the written content; however testing will give you a scientific answer to exactly where your site will get the most clicks.

(3) Making AdSense Ads Look Like Ads

People tend to ignore anything that looks like an ad. The AdSense Setup tab in your account allows you to change the colors of the words, borders and background of the ads you will place on your site. If you choose colors that clash with the colors of your site, then it will draw negative attention to those ads.

Tip #3: For your ads, you should use colors which blend in with the color and content of your site.

(4) Not Knowing Where a Click Came From

People aren't using what AdSense calls "Channels" to help publishers track click-thrus. These channels are assigned by you and help you figure out if clicks are coming from a specific ad format, region of your web page or an entire site. With this click thru data, overtime it will help you determine which placement works out the best or which needs improvement.

Tip #4: Take a closer look at the features available on your AdSense Setup tab and start creating and adding channels to your AdSense ad codes.

(5) Optimizing a Site with the Wrong Keywords

Money from the AdSense program comes from advertisers who use Google's AdWords advertising system. They bid on keywords for placement and one of the ways price is calculate is by how much competition there is for that search term. The greater the competition in general, the higher will be the price. Which means, AdSense affiliate sites that have content with those keywords will most like be paid higher for clicks. If a site is on a less popular topic, then those keywords will return a smaller commission.

Tip: #5: To increase the pay a click delivers, make sure the content you have on your site is appropriately optimized for the higher paying keywords. Many tools are available online to help you discover the profitable keywords or keyword phrases that should be on your site.

(6) Killing Potential Affiliate Sales

AdSense wasn't meant to replace the income a website can generate with your main products or the other affiliate products you are promoting. The only exception would be if your site focuses on providing pure information. Having AdSense links will make it easier for any potential buyers to leave your site. You may earn a few cents when the visitor leaves your site, but you may have made a few dollars if the visitor stayed and turned into a buyer. Sometimes AdSense ads will out perform the product you are selling directly.

Tip #6: To find out if AdSense or your main product makes you more money, you have to do some testing and tracking.

(7) Not Collecting Opt-ins

Even before email marketing was born, a mailing list in the offline business world generated billions of sales for mail-order and direct marketing companies. Successful businesses online regularly collect opt-in email addresses to stay in contact with their customers and send them promotional messages to generate additional backend sales and profits. Many sites built to make money displaying AdSense ads don't make the effort to also collect the email address of their potential customers. Try not to make that mistake.

Tip #7: Put up an opt-in form on your site and offer your visitors a free report related to the topic of your site so you can collect their email addresses.

Summing Up

These are the seven AdSense affiliate mistakes that when identified and corrected, can improve your click thru rate and overall site income. Once you've overcome the inertia to make these critical changes, soon you will be able to brag about the money you are making to people who doubted you could have a successful online business.

Seven Methods and Techniques to Define Your Niche ( Google affiliate )

Defining your niche is the biggest decision you make when producing an information product. Without a well-defined specific customer base you are fated to work harder and longer.

Here are 7 techniques that you can use to start from scratch and drill your niche down to a specific population that is just waiting with wallets wide open for your information.

1. Brainstorm 40 different ideas. Creativity starts with an open mind and without criticism. This is important...do not take something off the list, or assume it won't work. At this stage you are literally writing down everything you can think of. The act of writing and brainstorming often brings out creative ideas. Think of your life skills, problems your neighbor is having, difficulties your family encounters, skills you wish you had, skills your children have...just keep writing.

2. Organize your ideas and fill in the columns. As important as free flowing brainstorming and creativity are, so is getting those ideas and research organized to fully evaluate your possibilities. Using either a spreadsheet (preferable) or a table format in a word processing program set up several columns. In the first column write the idea, second column holds the number of overture searches third column holds the overture bid price, fourth column holds the number of printed books on Amazon on this topic, fifth column holds the number of groups discussing this topic in yahoo, the sixth column holds the number of blogs discussing the topic and the seventh column is a yes/no to indicate competition.

3. The competition. Each of the first six columns is fairly self explanatory once you reach the respective websites. In the seventh column you are evaluating the number of competing businesses. Search in Google using several keywords that describe your intended product. Look down the right column, which are the paid advertisements, you will determine if there are any information products in this particular niche. You should also search through, an affiliate digital library of information products. The key here is to find the competition. A niche without competition is not profitable, so move on. A niche with over 12 information products is probably saturated; keep looking.

4. Crunch the numbers. Once you have all the numbers for your searches you can evaluate the idea. These are the results you want: a topic where the searches are at least over 2500, there are no searches for 'free' your topic, the bids for your intended keywords are at least $00.30, there are hard copy books printed on the topic, there are several groups on yahoo and several blogs that discuss the topic, and there is at least 2 or 3 information products already produced.

5. Track the Words. Using the list from above take the top 4-5 ideas and head over to WordTracker. This is a paid service. However you can purchase a one-day 'pass' for about $8.00 and it is well worth the cost. You will spend a couple of hours researching these ideas and 'drill' down to a specific tight customer base. For instance, you won't produce a product for Realtors but for Realtors working in urban areas who specialize in homes from $250,000 - $400,000. You don't produce a product for fitness buffs but for men over 50 who once played basketball and want to get back into shape. Define your market tightly.

6. Blog about it. The next step is to start a blog about your topic. Reduce the potential ideas to no more than three and start a blog on each topic. Post something everyday on each blog. Add an opt-in list to the blog and offer more information to people who ask for your resources. Send traffic to your blog using pay-per-click traffic (if you have financial resources) or article writing, posting comments to other blogs similar in nature, add the blog tag to your signature line and join a couple of groups to contribute to their discussions. Contribute to the groups though, doesn̢۪t spam or you'll soon find yourself on the outside looking in. Start a list of people who are interested and send them good information.

7. Ask some questions. Your last step is to ask questions. Use only the topic that received the most traffic and seemed to have the most responsive customers. What does your audience want to know? You can ask the list you've started. You can use PPC to send people to an 'ask me' page giving a free copy of your book to the first 80 people who post proper questions and then ask for testimonials from those people. Watch for coupons from Yahoo for their PPC product. You can ask people who read your blog and encourage them to post in the comment section. You can ask people on the forums or read their most frequently asked questions.

Once you have this much information you are more than ready to begin producing your information product. You will be giving your audience the answers to the questions they have already been asking and your 'sales' process within your niche will be smooth and quick.

Don't be tempted to skip a step in this process or assume you know the answers because you are in the target audience. You can't know the questions on everyone's mind. You aren't a mind reader. You are too close to your project. Trust your audience and ask them! Affiliate Marketing Tactics: The Golden Rules Of Buying Domain Name For Your Business ( Google affiliate )

Whenever you want to begin any kind of business, you want to make sure that you are starting on the right track. Buying a proper domain name is one of the important decisions that you can make for your affiliate marketing business. Maybe you will think that it is not important, but it can actually have serious implications on how well your affiliate marketing efforts will do in the future. Hence, if you are ready to start affiliate marketing and picking a domain name, here are some suggestions that will help you.

Firstly, you have to choose your words carefully when you are picking a domain name. It is because if you have a proper domain name, you will be able to get some traffic from the search engines. This is basic search engine optimization and should always be taken into consideration in any kind of Internet marketing efforts.

For example, if your particular affiliate marketing niche is about cat training products, look for a keyword that is searched for multiple times and see whether you can get a domain name to match. If your domain name exactly matches the keyword, it will be much easier for you to rise to the top of the search engine rankings.

So what is the method for people to visit your webpage on a regular basis? You can try adding a blog or some other types of content to your webpage to make it more interesting. Although some individuals will bookmark your webpage, normally others will simply remember the domain name and type it in every time. So, it is also important that you make sure that your domain name is not that long for people to remember it. You should also try to make it something captivating and it is related to whatever it is that you are offering. Captivating domain names is easier for people to pass along and it is much easier to remember.

Lastly, you must make sure that your domain name is as secure as possible. Don't go with a fly-by-night registrar simply because they are a dollar less per year for the domain name purchase. If you do your affiliate marketing right, you will be able to make up that dollar and much more over a years time. By following these simple steps for buying a domain name, your affiliate marketing business will start out on the right track.

Using Affiliate Marketing To Promote Your Business

Even if you are already using the Internet to market your business, you should consider adding affiliate marketing to your Internet marketing campaign. Affiliate marketing, when done right, can yield a great deal of positive results for your business. Furthermore, even when affiliate marketing is not done right, it will not likely be financially detrimental to the business. This is because affiliate marketing is essentially an advertising program in which you only pay the affiliates when their marketing efforts yield financial results for your business. This article will take a look at affiliate marketing and explain how it works and how you can maximize the benefits of affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing essentially involves having website owners, known as affiliates, post advertisements for your website on their own website. You can lear more about affiliate marketig by checking out the Internet marketing blog at www.jeremyburns.com for weekly updates. Affiliate advertisements encourage visitors to click on the link and visit your website. The advertisements are specially coded to allow you to determine how many visitors enter your website through this advertisement. Unlike other types of Internet advertising where the business owner pays for the opportunity to place the advertisement on the website, an affiliate program does not work this way. Instead the affiliate is paid when the advertisement yields a desired result.

Affiliate advertisement can work on a pay per impression, pay per click, pay per lead or pay per sale basis. Pay per impression means the affiliate earns a profit each time the affiliate advertisement is served. This means for each unique visitor who views the advertisement the affiliate is given a predetermined amount of money. This amount will depend on a number of factors and will be agreed upon by the business owner and the affiliate before the advertisements begin appearing on the affiliate's website. Pay per click programs reward the affiliate each time a visit clicks through the advertisement. Pay per lead programs reward the affiliate when a visitor not only clicks on the advertisement but also performs a desired action such as filling out a survey or registering with the website. Pay per sale programs reward the affiliate each time a visitor clicks through the advertisement on the affiliate's website and also makes a purchase during this visit. The compensation plans associated with affiliate programs are so desirable because the business owner can have a number of affiliates and they only have to pay these affiliates if the advertising on the affiliate's website is effective.

Affiliate marketing does not always work. When seeking out affiliates it is important to look for a number of different factors. An affiliate with a great deal of experience, a website with high traffic and a proven track record for producing positive results will likely be a good choice for an affiliate marketing program. These affiliates rely on their advertising knowledge to promote the businesses and do not necessarily have to understand the business they are promoting. Another excellent choice for affiliate marketing is to select another business that is closely related to your own business but does not compete with your business. This is a good idea because they may share your target audience and their website visitors will also likely be interested in visiting your website as well. For example if you sell running shoes you may wish to run an affiliate marketing campaign on a website that promotes road races such as marathons, half marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. This website does not directly compete with your business but they are likely to attract an audience that would be interested in and have a need for your products or services.

Deciding whether or not to implement an affiliate marketing campaign is easy. As we previously mentioned there is very little risk in this type of campaign so it is worthwhile in just about any situation. A more important decision to make is how you plan to compensate your affiliates. The compensation for pay per impression programs is typically pretty low because your business is not necessarily generating a sale from each impression. Conversely, pay per sale programs usually compensates the affiliate better because the business does directly generate a profit from the advertising on the affiliate's website. This amount may a flat fee or a percentage of the sale depending on the affiliate agreement.
